The Nepalese Himalayas offer the closest thing to a religious experience for mountain bikers. And, it isn’t easy to find a destination that compares to miles of pure, undulating single track and some of the best downhill segments globally, all surrounded by the world’s tallest peaks. Therefore, experience the Annapurna Circuit on the mountain bike for the ultimate mountain biking adventure.
After landing in Kathmandu, the tour begins with a westward journey to the Annapurna foothills, where the ride will begin. The routes across the lower Himalayas are fast, steep, and flowy even before the air starts to thin. Moreover, we’ll ride alongside trekkers and yak herds on centuries-old roads through alpine Sherpa settlements as we climb higher. Finally, the journey culminates at Thorong La, the Annapurna circuit’s highest pass at 5,416 meters and a bucket-list descent if there ever was one.
The challenging atmosphere of the world’s tallest mountain bike playground will put your body to the test as you descend. But in the end, All of it will be worth it because of the scenery, the trek, and the raw experience.
Tripura Travelcations’ agent meets you at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport and transports you to your accommodation. In Kathmandu, spend the night in a hotel.
We tour prominent tourist sights in the capital in our private vehicle with our local tour guide, including Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Swayambhunath Stupa. Lunch and supper are not included in the package; however, our guide can suggest the best cafes and restaurants throughout the tour.
We begin our day with a private jeep ride along the Prithvi Highway to Besisahar. Then, we assemble our bikes and ride toward Syange after we get in Besisahar. To get to Syange, we ride along the Marsayangdi River and through gorgeous Himalayan forests.
We continue our journey along the jeep trail towards Dharapani. And, we bike along the Marsyangdi River through stunning waterfalls and lush rhododendron and pine forests. We’ll pass through various minor settlements to Dharapani in the Himalayas. In Dharapani, spend the night in a lodge.
Today’s trip will take us through breathtaking scenery, small villages, thick forests, and great weather. Before reaching Chame, we cross a few suspension bridges and pass through the tiny towns of Timing, Thanchowk, and Koto.
On our way to Manang, we pass through many lush pine and juniper trees as we ride uphill. We come across the lovely settlement of Dhikurpokhari with its captivating view of the Annapurna range, Lamjung Himal (6983m). We continue riding for a few more minutes till we reach Pisang, a Gurung and Thakali town.
Mountain riding from Pisang to Manang is one of the most beautiful days of our trip, as pine forests surround you, Himalayan peaks, Buddhist stupas and temples, prayer flags, horses, yaks, and yetis (who knows, perhaps we might spend more days to look after). The trails are flat and pleasant, and you’ll have the chance to see authentic Himalayan life, culture, and adventure. You are ecstatic to be riding your bike there; your smile will radiate happiness and joy throughout the day.
We will not ride steeply today to acclimate to the high altitude. Instead, we visit the picturesque Manang Valley. We’ll visit Buddhist monasteries and climbing schools and hike to Gangapurna Lake (3500m) for a breathtaking view of the Himalayas. You can also sample Manang’s famous Thakali cuisine.
Today’s trip will be challenging, and we may have to push our bikes uphill at Yak Kharka (4035m). On our way to Yak Kharka, we’ll pass through yaks grazing in the field and locals riding horseback on a steep route.
It is shorter in the distance, but the trails are more challenging to navigate due to the altitude and minor rocky routes. In a departure from previous days, we will bike through single tracks and a cliff area with breathtaking vistas. Unless it is monsoon season, it will be challenging to observe flora. Please do remember, that you may need to dismount and carry in some necessary items for your day. Finally, after crossing a little river, we push up a steep ascent to the Thorung Phedi. The bottom of the climb is referred to as Phedi.
Today’s ride will be considerably more rigorous than yesterday’s. We’ll have to pedal our bikes up a steep hill till we reach Thorung-La Crossing (5416m), Nepal’s highest mountain pass. From the top of Thorung-La Pass, the Himalayan landscape is breathtaking. In the end, we then make our way to Muktinath, the God of Salvation’s hallowed temple.
If you visit Muktinath Temple early in the morning, you can bathe under the 108 water sprouts, which are meant to wash away your sins. We began our bike trip toward Marpha after spending some time in the temple. From today on, we’ll have simple rides. Before entering Lupra Valley, we cross various mani walls and shortens while riding on rocky routes. Furthermore, we bicycle across the Kali Gandaki Valley, chasing the breathtaking Himalayan views, to reach Marpha, Nepal’s Apple Capital. Apple orchards and apple by-products are well-known in Marpha.
We ride through the Kali Gandaki Valley to get to Tatopani, passing through several traditional Nepali villages. Today’s journey will be long because we’ll be relying on various topographical settings than the previous days. We conclude our trek after arriving at Tatopani, we take a dip in a natural hot spring to relax our stiff muscles.
Our journey comes to an end today. We bike along the Kali Gandaki River until we reach Beni, passing through tiny communities. We removed our bikes after meeting Beni and took a vehicle to Pokhara. You can spend your evening meal hunting in the Lakeside region because many possibilities exist.
We fly back to the capital, taking in the breathtaking views of the Annapurna range, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu range, Ganesh Himal range, and Langtang Himal. We arrive in Kathmandu after a 25-minute flight. Feel free to do whatever you want with your free time.
We will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure after breakfast in the hotel.
