The Marsyangdi River rafting in Nepal is one of the world’s most spectacular grade IV kayaking rivers. Marsyandi drains through the northern slope of the Annapurna Himal, providing continuous, exciting whitewater with stunning mountain backdrops. It flows east through a barren valley near Manang, then south to Mugling, where it joins the Trisuli River.
It first opened for commercial Rafting in 1996 and required complete dedication from the crew and the guide. The rapids are tricky and require a different technique than the high-volume rivers like the Sun Kosi and Karnali. To get through this pinball machine, you’ll need 100 per cent power, a good line, and rapid reactions from the crew. It swiftly turns raft crews of strangers into true teammates.
We unpack the gear after arriving in Besisahar, and one of our staff will come with a porter to transport all of the adventure gear to our Khudi camp. We arrive in Khudi with plenty of time to set up camp, relax, and pick the finest spot to watch the sunset over the Himalayas.
After breakfast, we begin our two-hour trip to Ngadi, our put-in location. Lunch will be served, which will pump the rafts and supplies distributed, and your expedition leader will brief and instruct you on the ground about safety and paddling. Pay attention since you’re heading straight into the rapids, and this river has a way of highlighting any errors! Instant Karma, Twinkie, Adrenaline, and Mama’s Big Butt by Bhulbhule are among the rapids we experience. Today we return to Khudi for a well-deserved meal.
You must be prepared to continue bumping into challenging rapids starting today, and it does not stop after the first day. The crystal blue stream cascades for a mile, surrounded by dense rainforest clinging precariously to canyon sides and bizarre mountains poised far above the forested peaks. You must run these rapids for the following 5 hours and engage in challenging whitewater rafting. We will supply the Lunch along the route, and then the descent to the sandy beach camping location will begin. The white sand beaches below Bensisahar provide the most relaxing nightlife.
We went straight into whitewater after breakfast. The entire river is jammed between vertical walls at Phaliya Sanghu, which ascends 200 feet to a suspension bridge. After Phaliya Sanghu, the river calms down, and the rapids become more open and less intense. We finish the day at Bhotewodar, camping on a Shiva temple cave bank.
The river becomes very mellow and goes through a high-walled gorge. The river gets very calm and flows through a high-walled valley with stunning birds and foliage. We arrived at Bimal Nagar by lunchtime, where our transport was waiting to transfer us back to Pokhara, Chitwan, or Kathmandu.
