We have an extra day stopover in Namche today, which will allow us to acclimate correctly before continuing. Namche has magnificent surroundings where we can go for day hikes and exploration rather than remaining at the resort and bazaar. The day’s hiking excursion will also help us get better acclimatized and ready to journey to higher elevations.
Trek around Everest Base Camp a clockwise, following the West Bhotekoshi river valley to Nyangpala Pass, a traditional Tibet-Nepal crossing point. Since the first ascent of Mt. Everest by Late Tenzing Norgay to Appa Sherpa, who climbed Everest 21 times, these valleys have a high profile of mountaineers and have set records in ascending history.
It takes around 4 hours to walk from Thame to Lungden in the direction of the Nangpa La, a glaciated pass on the Nepal-Tibet border. We spend our second acclimatization day at Lungen hiking to the nearby hills and then climbing high to ensure proper altitude adjustment.
It’s time for another acclimatization day before continuing to the tallest mountain base camp. As we did in Namche, we went hiking again to explore the neighbouring areas. Today’s tour will provide us with breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding regions. We’ll spend the first half of the day hiking and the second half exploring and relaxing at Lungden.
Start early to be at Rinjola on time for a spectacular vista. The views from the Pass are breathtaking, with majestic Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, the world’s fourth-highest mountain, numerous other massive Himalayan peaks, and Cho-Oyu above 8000m close.
At an elevation of 4,7900 meters, descend into Gokyo.
Early in the morning, we begin a gradual ascent of Gokyo Ri. The trek to the top of Nepal’s best panoramic viewpoint takes about 4 hours. In the afternoon, we traverse the glacier parts to Thangna, where we will spend the night at a local teahouse.
We begin walking early in the morning to prevent unexpected events during the day. Because the frozen state provides more stability, there are fewer risks of loose pebbles falling before a pass. After the Pass, there are no more dangerous portions to encounter.
We travel over high grazing terrain before arriving in Lobuche after a quiet breakfast with a dramatic backdrop of the beautiful snow-capped peaks. We usually receive Lobuche by midday.
On the way to Gorakshep, go along the west side of the Khumbu Glacier, passing through the moraine. Continue for Legendary Everest Base Exploration after a light lunch at Gorakshep. In addition, while walking to EBC, you will feel a high altitude making a day a little difficult compared to other days.
Early morning ascent of Kalapathar using a torch. The trail is challenging to follow in the dark, but the vistas from the summit of Kalapathar are worth it. After getting some great photographs of the majestic mountains, we returned to the resort for breakfast before heading to Lobuche.
The hike traverses the higher moraine and leads to another area of complete wildness distant from the main trekking area. We carefully climb and cross the ice to reach the Nuptse wall nearby. Finally, the hike climbs higher up and then drops towards the glacier pond, and the route leads to the Chukung town, the highest Pass on our tour at 5535 meters.
Since 2015, the accessible trekking peak of Chhukung Ri, 5,550 meters, has been open, which was previously an NMA mountain that required climbing permits to scale. You can reach this trekking peak without any special climbing equipment or abilities. In addition, The summits of Mt. Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Amadablam, Cholaste, Thamserku, Kantega, and Tawache are all spectacular.
Descend the winding trail to Pangboche, passing through the picturesque Imjatse valley settlement of Dingboche. Therefore, there will still be much time to visit the Khumbu valley’s oldest monastery after a late lunch.
There is a temptation to hurry. Everyone has been waiting for proper hot showers for a long time, but they can’t help but visit Tengboche Monastery, magnificently situated in the lap of snowy peaks. After visiting the monastery, we will walk down to the river’s edge and uphill towards Namche to level the elevation.
We retrace our steps back to Lukla and are filled with memories of Himalayan treks and the last night’s dinner with Mountain Monarch employees who accompanied you on your walk.
Finally, we will travel from Lukla to Kathmandu in the morning and proceed to our hotel. Therefore, you will have plenty of time to make your decisions.
The 21-day Everest High Passes Trek has finally come close, leaving behind magnificent memories and an adventure hiking to the world’s highest mountain base camp. Eventually, we will transport you to the airport for your flight departure.
