Day 3: Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1503m)
Travel by public bus from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Settlement is located on the banks of Bhote Koshi and serves as the starting point for many treks in the Langtang region.
Day 4: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2380m) | Langtang Valley Trek Nepal
The walk begins peacefully, crossing a rustic wooden bridge over the chilly waters of the Bhote Koshi, a torrent with lofty beginnings near the Tibetan border. As we progressively travel to Lama Hotel for our first night on the trail, the path leads away through lush woodland perched by the river, with abundant wildlife on display.
Day 5: Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,430m)
The majestic Langtang Lirung keeps us company as we hike steadily up with heavily forested sections of rhododendron, pines, and oaks. The region’s strong connection to Buddhism via the numerous Mani walls, water-driven prayer wheels, and prayer flags marking our passage. Our visit to Langtang Community is solemn. The signs of the sad landslide caused by the devastating 2015 earthquake that destroyed the original village and took many lives remains visible. The new settlement has been positioned more sensibly, but a memorial at the site of the landslide reminds us of the tragic tragedy as we continue to Mundu, our rest break for the night.
Day 6: Langtang to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m)
Today’s journey will be short as we steadily head higher and open into a high-altitude zone of yak pasturelands and flowing streams, with towering mountains crowding in from both sides. Our early arrival in Kyanjin gives us plenty of time to see the monastery and tast the unique yak products of the local cheese factory, which is built with the Swiss’s assistance.
Day 7: Day hike to Tserko Ri (4984m) | Langtang Valley Trek Nepal
Tserko Ri, at an elevation of almost 5000 meters, provides an excellent perspective of the valley and is a tremendous challenge to climb; nonetheless, the effort is well worth it because the view from the top towards Langtang Lirung and other peaks in the area is magnificent in its vastness and beauty. We return plenty of time to recover after the climb – and possibly eat some more cheese!
Day 8: Trek back to Lama Hotel (2,470m)
Finally, today we will return to the Lama Hotel, albeit the hike back is a gentle downhill that provides us with a different perspective than the trip.
Day 9: Trek to Syabrubesi (1503m) via Sherpa Gaun
One of the advantages of walking the Langtang Valley is that it provides a less travelled and more straightforward path back to Syabru Besi through Sherpa Gaun, with serene views, a more secluded culture, and a pleasing combination of flora and animals.

Langtang Valley, Post 2015 Earthquake
The entire country was devastated by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in 2015, and the Langtang region was no exception. Numerous towns, including stores and teahouses essential to the journey, suffered damage. In addition, a further landslide struck the devastated village only a few days after the earthquake.
It was assumed that the area would be permanently closed off due to its severe damage (especially given that Langtang Valley was the earthquake’s epicentre). Therefore, rumours were circulating that questioned the safety of the visitors visiting the area.
The project for reconstruction, however, got going very rapidly. The stones obstructing the walking pathways were shifted because the aftershocks stopped and the likelihood of landslides/avalanches increased. To replace the outdated ancient teahouses, new ones were constructed.
The current location of the new Langtang valley is 100 meters above the old one’s ruins. The one house that survived the earthquake has taken on some significance. Finally, the trail is now open, and yearly trekkers continue to come to the area.
Best time for Langtang Valley Trek
The best season for doing Langtang Valley Trek is Spring(March to May) and Autumn(September to November). During this time, the sky clears, and the mountain vista is just stunning. The experience is delightful during this time. However, during this peak season, the place is a bit overcrowded.
You can trek in the winter (December-February), but freezing temperatures and heavy snowfalls add more complications. It is tough to hike in the winters, and even locals temporarily shift to low lands during peak winters. Trekking in winter increases the overall risk of altitude sickness as oxygen gets more than in winter, and you are prone to different kinds of illness in winters. During monsoon time(June to August), there are chances of rainfall, adding more difficulties. So, sticking to the best time for any trek experience here in Nepal is best.
