Itinerary | Gosainkunda Lake Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

As you soar into Kathmandu, you’ll get vistas of the valley, the Himalayas, and the terraced. After clearing customs, a representative will be there to welcome you outside the airport and help you navigate the initially disorienting tiny, winding streets of Kathmandu to your accommodation.

After you’ve settled in, go exploring in the city. The Kathmandu Durbar Square is an excellent site to start your trip because it is surrounded by tiny stores, historic temples, and neighbourhood eateries. Swayambhunath, the white stupa standing above the valley, is the ideal location to watch the sunset over the valley if you want to get some exercise.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Dhunche

Today is the first day of the Gosainkunda Lake trek. Drive from Kathmandu to the highland town of Dhunche as soon as you wake up. The altitude rises gradually throughout the five to six-hour excursion. Your trip up to Trishuli Bazaar is pretty good in the beginning before turning onto a dirt road.

Your guide will present your trekking permit at the checkpoint entry to the Langtang National Park. Drive for another hour from here. Before we arrive in Dhunche, views of the Langtang and Jugal mountain ranges become visible. You’ll go off the next day on your journey to Gosainkunda from this location.

Day 3: Dhunche to Sing Gompa

After breakfast, our hike departs from Dhunche. It initially seems relatively straightforward as we pass the village and take a side trail that enters the mountainside. We move slowly and steadily for the next five hours in an uphill direction. Sing Gompa’s target for the day is high on a ridge line. Stop there for lunch. The hamlet also includes a charming yak cheese farm.

Day 4: Sing Gompa to Lauribina

Because we are still climbing in altitude, today’s journey is shorter. Thus, it is preferable to maintain a slow and steady pace. You travel over a rough trail with stunning views of Langtang Lirung (23,710 ft./7227 m.), Himal Chuli (25,895 ft./7893 m.), the Manaslu range (26,758 ft./8156 m.), the Ganesh Himal range (24,297 ft./7406 m.), Tibetan peaks, and the Ganesh Himal range to the west. Even the Annapurna range may come up behind on a clear day.

In approximately four hours or so, we’ll arrive at the lodges in Lauribina and stop to take in the scenery.

Day 5: Lauribina to Gosainkunda Lake | Gosainkunda Lake Trek

The big day is today! To get to the lakes at Gosainkunda in time for lunch, continue your steady ascent for another three to four hours. We may either head over to the lookout above the lake, where there are stunning mountain views, or, if we have the time and stamina, hike for an hour to the highest point at Laurebina Pass, which is at 15,091 feet (4600 m). Alternatively, you may simply unwind and gaze at the lake. You can decide.

Day 6: Gosainkunda Lake to Sing Gompa

Today is the day to leave the lake and return down the mountain. Retrace your steps back to Sing Gompa for roughly 4.5 hours. As you descend, the travel should be more accessible than it was while ascending. At Sing Gompa, indulge in some well-deserved cheese.

Day 7: Sing Gompa to Thulo Syabru |Gosainkunda Lake Trek

The journey to Thulo Syabru today takes almost four hours. The route’s initial descent passes through rhododendron forests, silver oak, and pine (as well as marijuana plants, of course). Additionally, you’ll cross a suspension, from where you can see stunning mountain vistas.

Day 8: Thulo Syabru to Syabrubesi and then Drive to Kathmandu

From Thulo Syabru, descend the remaining portion of the path to Syabrubesi, where you may take a car back to Kathmandu. Although the trip will take the entire day, you can have supper and take a hot shower in the city again tonight.

Day 9: Departure from Kathmandu

It’s time to bid Nepal adieu. Take advantage of your last few hours in Kathmandu by eating breakfast in a café, taking one last stroll past the temples and along the winding lanes, and shopping for souvenirs. A driver will be waiting for you at your hotel to get you to the airport for your journey back home. It is preferable to arrive at the airport three hours before takeoff.
