Khaptad National Park Trek provides one of Nepal’s rare non-touristic wilderness national park experiences. The park, which covers 225 square kilometres in Nepal’s far western area, was established in 1984. It is genuinely encircled by beautiful oak and rhododendron trees. This national park sits at an elevation of 12,000 feet above sea level. Therefore it is home to a bear, a leopard, a common langur, and a musk deer. On the other hand, it is also home to 260 kinds of birds, 500 varieties of herbs, and various flora and animals.
The Khaptad region is Nepal’s “paradise on earth.”. The Khaptad can be accessible via Nepal’s Doti, Achham, Bajang, and Bajura Districts. These districts are known for their natural beauty and ecological diversity. Meanwhile, getting to the Khaptad area via Bajhang and Doti District is more convenient. In addition to its natural beauty, the Khaptad National Park is a well-known religious destination because it is the home of Hindu teacher “Khaptad Swami” or “Khaptad Baba,” a renounced hermit. Khaptad Baba spent many years here and thus discovered many medicinal herbal plants. Therefore, he meditated and spent his whole life in the Khaptad area for an extended period.
The stunning vistas of the Api and Saipal Himal hills attract visitors to Khaptad Lake. The Ganga Dashahara festival occurs in Khaptad on the 14th Jestha of Nepali month. Likewise, in the English calendar, it falls in the last week of May, is the largest in the country. In addition, the festival provides tourists a fantastic opportunity to learn about far western culture and lifestyle. Therefore. Butchering, alcohol, and tobacco are all prohibited in his neighbourhood.

We’ll arrive in Dhangadhi after a scenic flight of around an hour and fifteen minutes. Therefore, we will transfer you from the Dhangadhi airport to the hotel we have reserved for you. You will be given some time at the hotel to freshen yourself. Then we’ll go riding to Jokhar Lake and the Botanical Garden. Along the way, we’ll stop by Bed Upreti’s Aircraft Museum. We’ll ride back to the hotel after exploring these areas. Thus, in Dhangadhi, we will spend the nights in a 3-star tourist hotel.
After breakfast, we will be driven to Dhangadhi’s bus station to catch a bus to Silghadi. Silghadi is located 618 kilometres from Dhangadhi and takes approximately 8-9 hours to arrive. The road from Dhangadhi to Sildhadi is scenic and thrilling at times, as it passes over some of the sharpest slopes. The bus will make one stop for lunch before continuing to Silghaidi via Dipayal. We arrive in Silghadi around dusk after a long bus journey. The vista from Silgadhi Bazaar is breathtaking. Therefore, we will rest the remaining time, exhausted by the journey. Finally. we’ll spend the night in Silghadi in a guesthouse.
The Khaptad trip begins after breakfast in Silgadhi. At Silghadi, the trail to Jhingrana splits off from the main road. We trek to the summit of Silgadhi from the Silgadhi bazaar, taking in the breathtaking views. A four-hour moderate climb from the Silghadi bazaar will take us to the village of Baghlekh. There are a few tea establishments and traditional mud dwellings here. While wandering, you may also notice wild red berries, popular in this area. A three-hour easy trek from Baglekh will take us to Jhingrana, the entrance point to the Khaptad National Park. Therefore, we’ll spend the night in a modest teahouse (own sleeping bag recommended).
The hike continues towards the Khaptad National Park after breakfast in Jhingrana. After leaving Jhingrana, an upward trek will take us to Bichpani. Beautiful wildflowers will blossom and enhance the beauty of your trail. As we approach the summit of Bichpani, we are greeted by spectacular Himalayan views. Mules transporting groceries and fuel can also be seen in Bichpani. Lunch will be given at Bichpani as well. The view of Khaptad from Bichpani is even very breathtaking.
In addition, the trail now continues via numerous places on a stone-paved track, the pasture lands (Patan) and pine trees, Tribeni (a place where the Ganga Dashara celebration is organized), and a few tiny lakes heading towards the National Park headquarters. We camped for the night in the Khaptad National Park’s centre, near the Khaptad Army Barrack, after roughly 8-9 hours of walking. We will spend a night in a simple inn (own sleeping bag recommended). Camping is an option that can request.
Today, we’ll climb to the sunrise viewpoint early in the morning to catch the first rays of the dawn hitting the Khaptad National Park. After admiring the sunrise, we’ll return to the guest’s home for breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll take a short journey to the Khaptad Baba Ashram, a meditation zone in the middle of the woods where Khaptad Swami (also known as a doctor and researcher) lived and meditated for over 50 years.
The Kuti premise is peaceful and lovely. Therefore, in the evening, we will climb up to Ghodedawan, the largest meadow in Khaptad National Park and Nagdhunga.
After breakfast today, we climb to Sahasralinga (3200m), the highest point in the Khaptad National Park. We can enjoy the temple of Sahasra Linga, a unique doorway to Sahasra Linga, a natural formation of linga and other deities. The view of the beautiful surrounding environment from here is truly unique. After visiting these local attractions, we eat our packed lunch and then return to our hotel. Finally, we’ll spend the night in a hotel. In addition, camping is an option that can request.
After breakfast, we left the magnificent Khaptad Nationa Park and began our drive to Chainpur. We drop at Bajhang as we travel north. A 7-8 hour hike will take us to Tamil, passing over various beautiful villages and pleasant people. Finally, we will drive from Tamil to Chainpur and spend the night in a tourist standard hotel in Chainpur.
We took a bus from Chainpur to Dhangadhi early in the morning. It takes approximately 10-12 hours to get from Chainpur to Dhangadhi. We stop twice on the way for breakfast and lunch. The entire ride is so beautiful that you will want to photograph everything. We won’t arrive in Dhangadi until the evening. We’ll spend the rest of the time at the hotel, exhausted after the journey. In Dhangadi, we’ll spend the night in a 3-star tourist hotel.
Finally, today, we wave farewell to Nepal’s gorgeous far western regions and then fly back to Kathmandu. The scenic trip to Kathmandu from Dhanghadhi is about 55 minutes. In a private vehicle, you will be driven directly from the airport to your hotel in Kathmandu. The rest of the day can be spent relaxing at the hotel or exploring the markets of Kathmandu.
